MONTH 10

Adventure

Go somewhere. Try something.
Say yes.

Adventure does not require a passport, a bucket list, or a trip across the world. Sometimes it begins when we interrupt the familiar, take a different route, try something new, or simply decide not to say “maybe someday.”

Month 10 Adventure
MONTH 10 SAY YES ADVENTURE

THIS MONTH'S THOUGHT

Adventure doesn't begin with a plane ticket. It begins with saying yes.

FIELD NOTES

Adventure is really about leaving the familiar.

For years, routine may have been necessary. We knew where we had to be, what needed to get done, and how much time we had to do it.

Retirement gives us more opportunities to interrupt those patterns. Adventure can mean traveling somewhere new, but it can also mean taking a class, visiting a nearby town, hiking a trail, trying a food you have never ordered, or going somewhere alone for the first time.

The destination matters less than the willingness to step outside what feels automatic.

YOUR ROUTE THIS MONTH

Start close. Go farther if you want.

You do not have to wait for a major trip to become more adventurous. Think in expanding circles.

START HERE

Break the routine.

Do one ordinary thing differently. Take another route. Eat somewhere new. Change the plan.

GO A LITTLE FARTHER

Try the unfamiliar.

Visit a place you have passed a hundred times. Try an activity you would normally leave to someone else.

KEEP GOING

Say yes before you overthink it.

Some adventures disappear while we are still listing all the reasons they might be inconvenient.

POSTCARD FROM THE LIFE I'M BUILDING

Wish you were here.

Not somewhere far away. Here, in a life that still has room for surprise.

A QUESTION TO TAKE WITH YOU

When was the last time I did something without already knowing exactly how it would go?

MY JOURNEY THIS MONTH

How often do I talk myself out of things before I even try them?

I am noticing that adventure is often less about opportunity and more about my first response to it. It is easy to think about the inconvenience, the drive, the weather, the cost, or whether I will know anyone there.

This month I want to notice how quickly I reach for “no,” “not today,” or “maybe another time.” I want to leave a little more room for yes.

I do not need to become reckless or spontaneous about everything. I just do not want convenience to become the reason my world gets smaller.

JUST OUTSIDE THE FAMILIAR

Adventure usually begins one step past comfortable.

FAMILIAR

I know how this goes.

STRETCH

This is new, but I can try it.

ADVENTURE

I said yes. Now let's see what happens.

Adventure does not require fear. A little unfamiliar is enough.

GO

THIS MONTH'S CHALLENGE

Plan one micro-adventure.

Plan one micro-adventure this month.

Pick somewhere to go, something to try, or one experience that interrupts the usual routine. Put it on the calendar before you have time to talk yourself out of it.

MICRO-ADVENTURE LOG

The best adventures do not need impressive stories.

WHERE

Somewhere I have never been, even if it is twenty minutes away.

WHAT

Something I have not tried, ordered, visited, learned, or experienced.

WHO

Someone who makes saying yes a little easier.

WHY NOT?

The excuse I normally use and whether it is actually true.

The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter

THE BOOK THIS MONTH

The Comfort Crisis

Michael Easter

The Comfort Crisis explores what can happen when modern life becomes so comfortable that we lose some of the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that come from challenge.

For Adventure month, the point is not to chase discomfort for its own sake. It is to notice when comfort has become the automatic choice and consider whether stepping slightly beyond it might make life more interesting, capable, and alive.

GO DEEPER THIS MONTH

The Month 10 Companion

The Month 10 Companion helps you notice where comfort and routine may be making your world smaller and where a little more adventure could make retirement feel more expansive.

Through practical frameworks, reflection, real-life experiments, and concrete decisions, it helps you identify what usually makes you say no, create a realistic list of adventures worth trying, and plan one experience that moves you beyond the familiar without requiring a major trip or dramatic change.
