MONTH 4
Rewired
You are more than the roles you carried.
Retirement changes more than our schedule. It can change the way we see ourselves. This month is about noticing the identities, expectations, and assumptions we have carried for years and asking which ones still belong in the life we are building now.
THE MONTH AHEAD
Who are you when the roles that defined you begin to loosen?
For years, identity can become wrapped around work, responsibility, productivity, caregiving, and being the person everyone counts on. Those roles matter, but they are not the whole story.
Rewired is about separating who you are from who you had to be. It is a chance to notice the old definitions you are still carrying, decide which ones still feel true, and make room for a version of yourself that your former life may not have had room for.
Which roles and expectations have shaped the way I see myself?
Which parts still feel true, and which am I simply carrying forward?
Who might I be if I stopped defining myself by who I had to be?
The longest journey you will take is the twelve inches from your head to your heart.
THIS MONTH'S EXPERIMENT
Rewrite the old script.
We all carry stories about who we are, what we are good at, what people expect from us, and what someone like us would or would not do. This month is about noticing those stories and testing whether they are still true.
Notice
Pay attention to the labels, roles, and assumptions you use when you describe who you are.
Question
Ask whether those definitions still reflect who you are now, or whether they belong to an earlier chapter.
Reframe
Replace an old assumption with a possibility: I have never been that person. But maybe I could be.
Try
Do one small thing that lets you experience yourself differently instead of only thinking about change.
MY JOURNEY THIS MONTH
Who am I when I stop introducing myself by what I used to do?
This month I am paying attention to the identities I carried into retirement with me. The responsible one. The productive one. The person who solves the problem, gets things done, and knows what comes next.
Those parts of me are real, but they do not have to define everything that comes next. I want to notice what happens when I loosen my grip on the old roles and give myself permission to become someone I have not completely met yet.
I am not starting over.
I am deciding what I want to carry forward.
THIS MONTH'S CHALLENGE
Step outside the old version of you.
Try something you've never done before, or haven't done in years.
Pay attention to any voice that says, "That's not me." Then ask yourself whether that is still true.

Rewired
Come along as I look at the roles and assumptions I carried into retirement, question which ones still fit, and experiment with what it feels like to define myself a little differently.

THE BOOK THIS MONTH
From Strength to Strength
From Strength to Strength fits Rewired because it challenges the idea that we should spend the second half of life trying to preserve the identity, abilities, and measures of success that defined the first half.
Instead, it asks us to recognize that different stages of life can call for different strengths. That makes it a useful companion for a month devoted to loosening old definitions of ourselves and considering who we might become next.

The Month 4 Companion
The Month 4 Companion helps you examine the roles, labels, and assumptions that may still be shaping how you see yourself in retirement.
Through practical frameworks, reflection, real-life experiments, and concrete decisions, it helps you recognize which parts of your old identity still fit, question the ones that no longer do, and begin making room for a broader sense of who you are becoming.
